Video: Episode 2 – Do It In Digital

<img style="float: left;" src="http://media2.hpcwire.com/dmr/Crash_Test_Sim.jpg" alt="" width="83" height="47" />The future of American manufacturing competitiveness is based in smart, digital manufacturing - leveraging the power of high performance computing to solve traditional engineering challenges. NCMS is the driving force behind a new national strategy to make this capability available to small and medium-sized manufacturers across the country. In Episode 2, learn about the revolutionary power of Digital Manufacturing, modeling & simulation, and high performance computing tools for manufacturers.

Since the creation of Digital Manufacturing Report nearly a year ago, our mission has been to promote the adoption of digital manufacturing technologies to help companies both large and small accelerate time to market, increase ROI, and achieve success in the global marketplace.

We have published numerous articles defining The Missing Middle and documenting the many challenges these small and medium sized manufactures face when attempting to adopt these technologies, and some of the strategies being put forth to bridge this gap. At NCMS we have been actively engaged with industry, government and academia across the nation on this critical topic. As we have shared this message of opportunity, what has become clear is that if a picture is worth a thousand words, a video can truly capture what manufacturing success will look like for our country. And that’s what we are presenting here

“Do It In Digital” is the second in the “Sign of Goodness” trilogy. These clips are actually a very condensed version of an original video that in more detail shared the overall NCMS strategy.  This longer video leverages the results of a recent DoE funded project at NCMS under our Lightweight Automotive Materials Program (LAMP) to provide a view of what success looks like.

The participants in the project included Altair Engineering, L&L Products, Nimbis Services and R Systems. Some of the footage used to create these videos was supplied courtesy of Altair Engineering and L&L Products. NCMS thanks them for their contributions and the success of their project.

“Do It In Digital” is a review of what I discussed in my June 2011 article titled, “A PIC for Bob”, and another article a month earlier penned by Earl Dodd, president of Ideas and Machines, Inc.

Enjoy this video and come back next week when we premier the final clip in the trilogy titled, “Crunching Numbers,” which details the awesome job creating potential and other benefits to our nation that will be realized once this strategy is implemented. And please feel free check out the details about all of the NCMS LAMP projects.
