A New Liquid Cooling Solution
Yesterday Green Computing Report took a look at how Google improved their data center efficiency, with special attention to using computational fluid dynamics models to estimate how best to throw cooling air at server racks.
A company called Liquid Cool Solutions thinks they can do one better. By replacing air conditioning systems with liquid cooling systems, they hope to bring about higher efficiency regarding floor space, noise pollution, and of course effectively lowering the temperature of IT systems. Their concept video is below.
Liquid Cool Solutions’s main argument seems to center on the concept that liquid is a more efficient carrier of temperature than air. This is indeed true. However, there is a certain wariness about exposing chassis to any liquid when it wasn’t necessarily designed for that.
The company asserts that their liquid is non-conductive and as such does not interfere with IT functions. If that point holds true, LCS could be someone to watch in the green data center game.
