IMTS to Focus on Advanced Manufacturing in 2014
Next year, the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) will be held at McCormick Place in Chicago. The show brings together great minds across the manufacturing industry so that ideas can be exchanged and questions answered, with advanced manufacturing technologies in the spotlight.
The event's theme, “Come Together,” speaks to the more than 100,000 members of the manufacturing community are expected to be in attendance from over 119 different countries. In addition, 1091 exhibitors are slated to attend the show, representing almost a quarter increase from 2013.
The Emerging Technology Center (ETC) will be at IMTS showcasing the progress that energy-efficient vehicle manufacturing has made. During the event, Local Motors will manufacture its new city vehicle, “the Boston Bullet,” in its entirety, with a number of exhibitors contributing machinery and technology to help move the production of the vehicle along. It will be produced through a new manufacturing process called “additive-subtractive,” which begins with additively manufactured parts that are then machined down to precise specifications through subtractive processes.
To separate the many different areas of manufacturing, there will be several of pavilions at the show with different manufacturing exhibits within each one. The pavilions are split with sections that include: Abrasive Machining, CAD & CAM, Laser and Additive, Machine Components, among others.
IMTS will also feature two co-located shows. These shows, the Industrial Automation North America and Motion, Drive & Automation North America will present the most current automation technologies along with technologies aimed at power transmission, motion control, and fluid technology.
The event will take place September 8-13, 2014.
