Mellanox Interconnect Solution Increases Datacenter Productivity

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. today announced that running Windows Server 2012 R2 SMB Direct over Mellanox's end-to-end FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand solution accelerates virtual machine (VM) live migration by 10X vs. Windows Server 2012. Windows Server 2012 R2 SMB Direct also doubles the I/O Operations per Second (IOPS) and reduces the CPU cycles required to transfer data by 17 percent. Those impressive performance results have been achieved in conjunction with Mellanox Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) technology with Windows Server 2012 R2, and they demonstrate the productivity gain that InfiniBand enables in virtualized data centers when running over Microsoft Hyper-V.

"We are happy to see the new performance records of SMB Direct in Windows Server 2012 R2 and the proliferation of the technology to other areas like VM live migration," said Kevin Deierling, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "Utilizing Mellanox's RDMA-based interconnect solutions and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, end-users can increase their application performance, improve their data center system efficiency, as well as consolidate their server and storage network infrastructure over a single-wire network for optimal CAPEX and OPEX savings."

Mellanox's leading FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand interconnect solution includes the SwitchX-based SX6036 and SX6012 switches, and ConnectX-3/ConnectX-3 Pro 56Gb/s adapters provide greater performance when running enterprise data center applications. Mellanox's FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand solutions are available today and include OEM support from such leading vendors as Dell, HP, and IBM.
