Actuate Integrates with Hortonworks Sandbox

Actuate Corporation  announced its integration with the Hortonworks Sandbox for developers using BIRT. In addition, Actuate has introduced an improved BIRT Hive Driver to make data access from Apache Hadoop into BIRT even easier.

The announcement is the latest in Actuate’s ongoing relationship with Hortonworks, a leading contributor to and provider of enterprise Apache Hadoop. The BIRT Apache Hive Driver utilizes Hive queries to access data from Hadoop, pulling data sets into personalized and interactive BIRT-based visualizations. Actuate presents data in a managed analytic environment, where it can be scaled across a vast number of users in a secure and controlled manner and delivered on any device, anywhere.

"The Hortonworks Sandbox is the fastest way for anyone to learn Hadoop," said John Kreisa, Vice President of Strategic Marketing at Hortonworks. "By combining Actuate’s BIRT-based development platform with the Hortonworks Sandbox, developers have the quickest and easiest way to learn the benefits of the combined technologies."

“We’re pleased to be furthering our alliance with Hortonworks through integration with the Hortonworks Sandbox,” said Nobby Akiha, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Actuate. “Hadoop is excellent at storing, processing and managing huge volumes of structured and unstructured data. When combined with Actuate’s BIRT visualization capabilities, developers can now enable personalized insights from Big Data much more quickly.”

The combination of BIRT and Hortonworks Data Platform delivers insights about behavior and wishes of customers and prospects as well as about internal processes. Developers can now build solutions through which Big Data can be used to engage with customers, partners and employees in the most effective way, using interactive charts, dashboards and scorecards all in a highly embeddable, scalable and secure environment.
