Aspera to Showcase On Demand Enhancements
Aspera, Inc. today announced new customer and partner relationships that reinforce its position as the de facto provider of high-speed file transfer for the cloud. Aspera will showcase an enhanced version of Aspera On Demand at AWS re:Invent on November 12-15 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Aspera On Demand enables seamless, line-speed transfers of very large files and sets of files to, from, and across the cloud-based object storage of Amazon Web Services, Windows Azure and OpenStack. The Aspera software platform turbo charges content delivery, with line-speed transfers at any distance from Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) infrastructure, and creates a unique overlay for content security on top of the infrastructure, managing secure user authentication, content browsing, and access control across all major cloud and enterprise storage platforms.
At AWS re:Invent Aspera will be showing its upcoming auto-scaling platform for Aspera On Demand, a new software platform that allows for dynamic, real-time scale out of transfer capacity with automatic start/stop of transfer server instances, automatic balancing of client requests across available instances and configurable service levels to manage maximum transfer load per instance, available idle instances for “burst” and automatic decommissioning of unused instances. The auto-scale platform is complemented by a new scale out data store for distributed, high-throughput collection, aggregation and reporting of all transfer performance and file details across the autoscale cluster.
Aspera will also show its latest On Demand product release version 3.4 which includes support for http fallback for transfers to/from S3, Amazon IAM support, and inline reporting of file checksums in transfer to/from S3.
In the media and entertainment industry, customers using Aspera On Demand for cloud-based digital workflows include Netflix, UFC, MTV Brasil, European soccer association UEFA, news distribution service SendtoNews, and cinema distribution service Cinema Cloud.
In addition, Aspera’s Emmy award-winning fasp technology is enabling a new breed of cloud-based infrastructure and service providers. These include content delivery networks such as Akamai, video encoding providers such as Brightcove / Zencoder, encoding.com and Sorenson Media, and providers of other content management and transformation services including Elemental, thePlatform and Windows Azure Media Services.
In the field of life sciences, Aspera On Demand is enabling new cloud-based bioinformatics platforms, including BGI’s EasyGenomics cloud-based bioinformatics solution for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, BT for Life Sciences R&D cloud service for collaboration within the life sciences industry, and GenoSpace’s cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for storing and analyzing large sets of complex genomic data.
