Siemens to Open Centers of Excellence for Industry Skills
Siemens Industry Software India (SISW) has signed an agreement with the Government of Gujarat’s Ministry of Industries and Mines to launch five Centers of Excellence (COEs) in the state. These centers will specifically be aimed at skill development in higher education.
SISW and their partner, DesignTech Systems, signed the agreement back in September of this year during a seminar on improvements in higher education. Many dignitaries and academicians from Gujarat along with members from Siemens attended the event.
The five centers will address different industry sectors including automotive, industrial machinery, industrial automation, aerospace & defense, and even shipbuilding. Through these centers, students will learn industry processes so that when they graduate and are looking for careers in related industries they will be successfully trained.
Shri Modi, the Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat, said, “The agreement signed today with Siemens for five Centers of excellence is not just an academic activity, but an initiative to meet the emerging education needs and aspirations of not only Gujarat, but also our country as a whole.”
He continued, speaking on the need to improve the quality of learning, by saying, “This initiative with Siemens will help make our fresh Engineering graduates employable and productive.” While concluding the speech, he also said, “this investment will bear fruit, good work will be done and Siemens will be able to present this as a model initiative to the world.”
Not only will the COEs help the students to find better career opportunities, but they will assist in the industrial development in Gujarat as well.
The Centers of Excellence will house some of the most state-of-the-art equipment and software. This includes NXTM software for digital product engineering, Teamcenter software for digital lifecycle management, industrial automation equipment, computer numerical controls, computer integrated manufacturing units, industrial robots, and rapid prototyping machines, to name just a few.
“We wish to congratulate the Government of Gujarat on their foresight and commitment to industrial development and we thank them for providing us an opportunity to partner with them in this strategic initiative. We firmly believe that focused skill development initiatives like this are essential to sustain and enhance India’s manufacturing competitiveness in the long run. These COEs will be the first of their kind in the country and will go a long way to further enhance the industry readiness of Gujarat,” said Suman Bose, Managing Director, Siemens Industry Software India.
