Panasas Delivers Microsoft Windows Support with PanFS 5.5

Panasas, Inc. has released PanFS 5.5, a major storage operating system update for its ActiveStor scale-out NAS appliances featuring enterprise-grade Microsoft Windows support. Panasas now addresses a significantly wider range of business-critical applications, helping customers drive product and research innovation.

“PanFS 5.5 broadens the appeal of our ActiveStor scale-out storage appliances because robust Windows support is vitally important to many of our current and prospective customers,” said Faye Pairman, Panasas CEO. “This new release makes ActiveStor even more suitable for deployments in energy, life sciences, manufacturing, media and entertainment, and other markets where high-quality Windows interoperability is required.”

Now an Authorized Microsoft Protocol Licensee in the Microsoft Communication Protocol Program (MCPP), Panasas has replaced its previous open source Samba implementation with a commercially licensed, Microsoft-compliant protocol offering solid, reliable Windows interoperability. With PanFS 5.5, users can easily access their data sets from Windows, Linux, and UNIX systems, a core requirement for many technical research and enterprise workflows.

The PanFS 5.5 storage operating system is immediately available and is fully compatible with ActiveStor 14, the Panasas flagship hybrid scale-out NAS appliance, in addition to ActiveStor 11 and 12. For more information, visit the PanFS webpage at: http://www.panasas.com/products/panfs/new-panfs.
