Silicon Mechanics Announces Adoption of NexentaStor 4.0

Silicon Mechanics, Inc. announces their adoption of NexentaStor 4.0, the next generation of Software Defined Storage (SDS) solution from partner and industry leader Nexenta. Nexenta's award-winning SDS solution is a key building block of the Software Defined Data Center and one that is helping companies' transition away from massively expensive storage systems.

“I am extremely interested in the new features offered by NexentaStor 4.0, especially the ability to offload metadata and the asynchronous deletes capability,” said John Schleigh, IT Manager for ESRG, a data analysis and remote monitoring technology firm that uses a unified storage appliance supplied by Silicon Mechanics. The software-defined storage platform is based on open-source ZFS technology and powered by NexentaStor. “I expect that being able to get that out of RAM will help us a lot. I am also looking forward to taking advantage of the improved compression ratio and the updated Common Internet File System (CIFS).”

With NexentaStor 4.0, enterprises can continue to liberate themselves from the traditional hardware-centric storage approach and have a full-featured, unified storage solution that scales to meet growing storage requirements on any platform. With critical enhancements around controller performance, media error handling, replication and ecosystem integration, NexentaStor 4.0 delivers unmatched data integrity and provides customers the flexibility to select their storage operating system independently from the hardware on which it runs without compromising on features, reliability and availability. Industry standard storage hardware tends to lack defense against silent data corruption, is difficult to manage, and suffers in performance as storage needs grow.

"The channel community is an important and trusted ecosystem for Nexenta. The latest version of Nexenta reflects the close relationship that Nexenta has with our channel partners and joint customers as we add features and functionality to help businesses save time and money, and eliminate any storage hurdles that they may face," said Don Lopes, Director of Channel & Inside Sales, Nexenta. "We will continue to work closely with partners, such as Silicon Mechanics to disrupt the storage market and provide more customers with access to enterprise-quality SDS solutions at a significantly lower cost than legacy storage vendors."
