Mellanox Announces Collaboration with IBM

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. today announced a collaboration with IBM to deliver a high-performance infrastructure for NoSQL Databases and In-Memory Data Grids (IMDGs), utilizing IBM Power8-based systems and Mellanox 40GbE adapters and switches featuring RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE). The solution supports the co-location of data computation in a distributed fashion, enabling global accessibility, scalability, elasticity, and persistence. This modular approach enables a 10X increase of application throughput while reducing latency by more than 7X.

“We are pleased to collaborate with IBM to develop the necessary infrastructure for today’s demanding data processing and rapidly growing data sets,” said Kevin Deierling, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “The new high-performance infrastructure creates a unique value proposition for organizations looking to gain In-Memory performance and scalability advantages while offloading application computation.”

“Applications that historically struggled with scalability and performance can now benefit from In-Memory processing,” said Terri Virnig, vice president, IBM Power Ecosystem. “Our collaborative efforts with Mellanox resulted in a robust architecture with Power8-based systems and high-performance interconnects designed to tackle the Big Data processing requirements of today.”
