RainStor 5.5 Certified to Run on Cloudera Enterprise 5
RainStor today announced that RainStor 5.5 has been certified to run on Cloudera Enterprise 5, the company’s next generation Hadoop powered platform that serves as an integral component of enterprise data hubs globally. RainStor and Cloudera have been collaborating since January 2012, when RainStor joined the Connect Partner Program offering a Big Data Archive solution for analytics against historical data to meet business and data governance requirements.
This new certification enables Cloudera customers to run RainStor natively on HDFS, while offering enterprise-grade security features — including data encryption and masking — integrated with a highly efficient data store that utilizes market-leading compression. RainStor was certified on a Kerberos-enabled cluster and was tested to ensure that RainStor’s compressed data files stored on HDFS remain fully accessible via a wide range of access tools including Hive, Pig, and MapReduce, as well as RainStor’s own MPP SQL query engine, all operating in a secure Hadoop environment. The compressed data does not require any re-inflation and, in fact, query response rates speed up, which improves overall productivity.
“Cloudera has made tremendous strides in opening up their platform, making it possible for solution providers like RainStor to bring new capabilities to anyone running Cloudera Enterprise Data Hub. With CDH 5 and RainStor, customers can scale out an active archive, storing more structured data for longer, within a secure, enterprise-grade analytics and data governance environment,” said Mark Cusack, chief architect at RainStor. “Cloudera has widened the scope of what is possible within the enterprise. Securely managing critical data is a high priority for today’s CIO when rolling out Hadoop, and we are focused on solving that challenge.”
RainStor provides a comprehensive portfolio of enterprise features running on CDH 5 to ensure data privacy, and also adherence to a number of data governance and industry-specific regulatory mandates. Active Archive use-cases are broad and can include offload from data warehouses or off networks, for example machine-generated data being fed directly into a data hub. In banking and communications environments, data is sensitive and has to be managed and secured to exacting standards, which RainStor delivers while leveraging the power and scale of Hadoop. RainStor also delivers built-in replication, which creates a secondary instance in the event of an outage of failure — a key requirement for most enterprises today.
“We are delighted with the wide range of technology solution partners that have certified on CDH 5 and believe it is testament to the maturity of the platform but also the overall market demand,” said Tim Stevens, VP of Business & Corporate Development. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with RainStor to provide enterprise-grade security, offer a wide range of access tools and simplify data management for Cloudera Enterprise customers.”
