ScaleMP Releases vSMP Foundation 6.5
FORT LEE, N.J., July 20 -- ScaleMP, a leader in high-end virtualization software, today announced the release of vSMP Foundation Version 6.5. Improved performance for high-end deployments, boot-time reduction, support for new versions of operating systems and support for flash as memory expansion highlight this release.
Highlighting vSMP Foundation 6.5 are enhancements that add to the user experience for high-memory capacity deployments. A 24-terabyte (TB) virtual machine (VM) consisting of an eight-socket system has demonstrated up to 4X performance improvement, and up to 2X reduction in boot time for VMs with 4TB or more. Additionally, vSMP Foundation 6.5 supports both Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL7) and SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 (SLES12). New product UI and theme support allows for OEMs to customize vSMP Foundation for their own artwork and design guidelines.
This latest release from ScaleMP is the first to support flash for memory expansion. vSMP Foundation Version 6.5 can access flash storage devices to provide applications with larger memory access without the cost of very high-speed RAM. Flash memory, which is typically used to accelerate traditional I/O operations, can now be viewed as a transparent extension of high-speed memory. End users will be able to load larger databases in the multi-terabyte range into memory, leading to faster transactions and decisions. The amount of memory available to in-memory databases will now include both the server RAM and flash. This allows for a lower-cost and higher-capacity solution than traditional RAM for applications that require terabytes of memory.
“vSMP Foundation’s new functionality brings together the lower economics of flash memory with the needs of those who require larger in-memory databases than traditional architectures allow,” said Shai Fultheim, CEO and founder of ScaleMP. “Our ongoing development in this area will allow larger and more complex in-memory databases to be accessed by a wide range of users, enabling more collaboration and better decision making.”
