Envenio to Demonstrate First Commercial Time-Parallelization Scheme with BCIP Contract 

NEW BRUNSWICK, Nov. 1, 2017 -- Engineering software developer, Envenio, has been awarded a standard contract with Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) under the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP). The $492k contract will allow Envenio to demonstrate the first commercial time-parallelization scheme for its computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver EXN/Aero. The innovation is also being tested by National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces.

Under this contract, Fredericton-based Envenio will work with DRDC on various challenging fluid flow situations for ships and submarines, as well as explosions and high-speed missile aerodynamics, with a view to advancing the existing DRDC simulation capability through application of the parallel-in-time methodology.

Many CFD solvers employ spatial parallelization to reduce the time required to reach a CFD solution. Envenio’s approach extends this concept by solving multiple time slabs simultaneously, adding a new dimension, and multiplier, to solution speed.

The Build in Canada Innovation Program has not only played a fundamental role in the securing of this particular contract, but continues to prove influential in making Canadian suppliers more competitive, as well as facilitating and increasing their contribution to the economy. The program funds the acquisition of new, innovative products and services for testing by matched government departments in real-world environments. Innovations are evaluated individually before becoming pre-qualified for potential contracts through a competitive ‘call for proposals’ process.
