OnScale and SoftMEMS Collaborate with Mentor to Announce a New Integrated Workflow for MEMS Digital Prototyping
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 23, 2019 -- Today, at the MEMS & Sensors Executive Congress – MSEC 2019, OnScale and SoftMEMS announced the first truly integrated workflow for MEMS Digital Prototyping combining Cloud Engineering Simulation and Tanner electronic design automation (EDA) tools from Mentor, a Siemens business.
Enabling MEMS Digital Prototyping Through EDA-Process Modeling-Cloud Engineering Simulation Integration

Data from simulations is easily fed back into the Tanner L-Edit MEMS tool so that engineers can develop integrated circuits (ICs) quickly with accurate MEMS performance and timing data across manufacturing variances and environmental conditions.
The integrated workflow allows MEMS engineers to rapidly accelerate product development and shift significant cost away from expensive and time-consuming physical prototyping processes to digital prototyping. “In many cases, our customers see a 90% reduction in cost, risk, and time-to-market by shifting from physical prototyping to digital prototyping,” continues Campbell.
Previously, MEMS engineers were forced to work in many separate decoupled software tools – EDA tools from Mentor, 3D CAD tools, computer-aided engineering (CAE) simulation tools, and post-processing tools like MATLAB and Microsoft Excel. Due to the slow pace of these decoupled, legacy desktop engineering processes, MEMS companies had to rely on physical prototyping – creating a design, manufacturing a physical prototype, observing performance and reliability in an electronics lab, identifying design flaws, and then going back to the drawing board to repeat the process all over again.
