AI Career Notes: June 2021 Edition 

In this monthly feature we bring you up to date on the latest career developments in the enterprise AI community -- promotions, new hires and accolades:


Sam Alkharrat, Ed Cardon, and Tod Weber

C3 AI, an enterprise AI software provider, welcomed three new executives to its leadership team. Sam Alkharrat joined C3 AI as its president and chief revenue officer. He will lead the global expansion of C3 AI's sales and customer service organizations.

Lieutenant General (Retired) Ed Cardon joined C3 AI as chair of the C3 AI Federal Systems, a division of C3 AI. General Cardon will provide leadership to the group on critical national priorities, including the adoption of AI in defense and intelligence systems, cyber defense and ethical AI.

Lastly, Tod Weber has joined C3 AI as its senior vice president and general manager of C3 AI Federal Systems. Weber will be responsible for C3 AI's Federal Systems group in its mission to bring the benefits of enterprise AI to the United States federal government and associated industries.

Michael Bradshaw

Michael Bradshaw joined Kyndryl, the new, independent public company that will be created following the separation of IBM's Managed Infrastructure Services business unit, as its chief information officer. Bradshaw comes to Kyndryl from NBC Universal, where he was executive vice president and chief information officer.

Bradshaw led NBC Universal's global IT operations and oversaw NBC Universal's tech infrastructure, applications, and IT strategy. Before joining NBC Universal, Bradshaw was vice president and CIO for the Mission Systems and Training business unit at Lockheed Martin, where he was previously vice president of enterprise IT services.

Shane Evans

MX, the company that helps organizations connect to the world's financial data and turn raw, unstructured data to deliver intelligent and personalized money experiences, appointed Shane Evans as its first president. Evans joined MX in 2019 as its chief revenue officer.

Evans will oversee the company's sales, partner, marketing, customer success and advocacy organizations in the expanded role. Before joining MX, he spent five years in the sales teams at Qualtrics, developer of Qualtrics Experience Management software.

Damon Fletcher

DataRobot, a trusted AI technology and enablement service provider to global enterprises, welcomed Damon Fletcher as its chief financial officer. Fletcher will be responsible for DataRobot's financial operations. Most recently, he served as the chief financial officer of Tableau.

"I've been following DataRobot for years, and have long-admired the breadth of their platform, their focus on data-driven insights and decisions and the game-changing results they consistently deliver to customers," said Fletcher. "To join the DataRobot team as CFO, particularly at this moment of explosive growth for the company, is a tremendous opportunity."

Mark Glasgow

Blaize, the AI computing company and developer of edge and automotive computing products, welcomed Mark Glasgow as its vice president of worldwide sales. Glasgow brings more than 30 years of experience, including serving as VP of worldwide enterprise sales for Micron Semiconductor and executive director for the North America Advanced Systems Group at Dell.

"I am excited to be joining Blaize at this auspicious time in the company's development," said Glasgow. "Blaize has a first wave of customer traction with a compelling product value proposition that is truly unique in the world of AI processor technology, addressing today's unmet requirements for economical compute and productization of AI applications at the edge."

Alyssa Henry and Larry Shurtz

Confluent, Inc., developer of the platform for data in motion, appointed Alyssa Henry to its board of directors, and Larry Shurtz was appointed as its chief revenue officer. Henry has served as seller lead for Square, Inc., a software, hardware and financial services provider for small businesses and individuals.

Shurtz has more than 25 years of experience in the technology and enterprise software industry, leading both enterprise and commercial  go-to-market organizations. His most recent role was at Salesforce, where he was the executive vice president of enterprise for North America.

Timm Hoyt

PagerDuty, Inc., a digital operations management solutions provider, welcomed Timm Hoyt as its vice president of partnerships. Hoyt will work directly with PagerDuty's product and sales team to increase the company’s partnership-driven revenue.  He joins Pagerduty from Druva, where he held the role of global vice president of partner sales.

"As companies move rapidly to digital-first, PagerDuty is essential for helping businesses handle any urgent mission-critical need right away," said Hoyt. "I couldn't be more excited to join PagerDuty to lead its partner organization and continue to empower and incentivize the partners in our ecosystem."

Shanthi Iyer

DocuSign, a company that helps organizations connect and automate how they prepare, sign and manage agreements, welcomed former Cisco executive Shanthi Iyer as its new chief information officer. Iyer started at Cisco in 1997 as an Oracle database administrator. She held various roles at Cisco, ultimately becoming the chief data officer and senior vice president of the data and analytics group.

"With a year of remote work behind us, hybrid work environments on the horizon and the rise of the anywhere economy, it's a unique and exciting time to take on the CIO role at DocuSign," said Iyer. "We're at an inflection point where technology, data and analytics can be used in new ways to truly simplify life and accelerate business for our employees, customers and partners."

Michael Kratsios

Scale AI Inc., a company that accelerates the development of AI applications by helping machine learning teams generate high-quality ground truth data, appointed the former Acting Under Secretary of Defense Michael Kratsios as its managing director.

Prior to Kratsios's appointment to the US Department of Defense, he held the role of chief technology officer of the United States at the White House from 2017 to 2021. Before his tenure at the White House, he spent seven years at investment management company Thiel Capital LLC.

Steve Lyon

Steve Lyon joined EeroQ, a company founded in 2016 with the mission to build a commercial quantum computer using electrons trapped on the surface of superfluid helium, as its chief technology officer. Lyon will retain his duties as a professor at Princeton University.

"Engineers and scientists are working on a range of technologies for building a large-scale quantum computer, but one of the most compelling approaches is to use electrons bound to the surface of superfluid helium," noted Professor Lyon. "This technology holds promise for fast submicron quantum gates, comparable to silicon-based qubits, but with long-coherence mobile qubits, like trapped ions, and with device structures which have been fabricated using an unmodified CMOS foundry process. I began research in this field almost 20 years ago, and we have developed device models for quantum gates and demonstrated the ability to select electrons and rapidly move them around a chip without loss. I am excited to expand and accelerate progress in this field with EeroQ."

Natália MacQueen and Rupert Clifford-Brown

Dataiku, the developer of an enterprise AI platform, appointed Natália MacQueen and Rupert Clifford-Brown as regional vice presidents based out of Dataiku's London headquarters. MacQueen and Clifford-Brown will help to nurture and grow the company's customer base in the UK and Ireland.

MacQueen joined Dataiku from Gartner in the U.S., where she most recently led the Invest division in Silicon Valley for the West and Central states and Canada. Clifford-Brown joined the company from Automation Anywhere, where he led the UK and Ireland go-to-market teams.

Michele Macready, Mark Snedeker, Jennifer Houston, and Mark Johnson

Michele Macready and Mark Snedeker joined D-Wave,  a provider of quantum computing systems, software and services, as its senior vice president of software, cloud and professional services and its VP of professional services, respectively. Macready brings more than 25 years of experience as a technology consultant, and Snedeker spent 27 years at Accenture as a managing director.

In addition, D-Wave announced that Jennifer Houston was promoted to chief marketing officer. She will run the company's marketing, communications, demand generation, product marketing and public affairs initiatives. Mark W. Johnson, Ph.D., was promoted to VP of D-Wave's quantum technologies and systems products.  Johnson was instrumental in developing all the iterations of the Advantage system, a commercial quantum system.

Olivia Nottebohm

Photonic computing company Lightmatter appointed the former chief operating officer of Dropbox, Olivia Nottebohm, to its board of directors. At Dropbox, Nottebohm managed sales, business development, partnerships marketing, customer success, support, people and communications. Before joining Dropbox, Nottebohm held leadership sales and go-to-market roles at Google, and was a technology practice partner at McKinsey & Company.

"It is a testament to Lightmatter's potential and ambitions for future growth and impact that we have been able to appoint someone of such incredible caliber and experience. Lillian Reaume

Rubrik, the cloud data management company, welcomed Lillian Reaume as its chief people officer. Reaume will be responsible's for Rubrik's people organization, including culture and engagement, talent management, learning and development and diversity, equity and inclusion.

"We’re at a unique point in time where we have the ability to embrace the tremendous change we’ve experienced over the last year as an opportunity, both as we think about the future of work and how we create a truly inclusive environment,” said Reaume. “I’ve been truly impressed with the emphasis the executive team places on its people, company values, and mission. I’m excited to join at this time of explosive growth, and partner with team members of all levels to ensure Rubrik continues to be a place where everyone is empowered to do their life’s best work.”

Karen Rogge

Rambus Inc. appointed Karen Rogge to its board of directors. Rogge brings finance and operations management experience, having worked at public technology companies such as Hewlett Packard, Seagate Technology and Extreme Networks. Currently, she is president of the RYN Group LLC, a management consulting business.

“Rambus’ products and technology are at the heart of some of today’s fastest-growing markets,” said Rogge. “I am honored to join the board and look forward to helping guide the company in its future success.”

Suresh Sathyamurthy

SingleStore appointed Suresh Sathyamurthy as its senior vice president of growth and marketing.  Sathyamurthy will be responsible for SingleStore’s marketing and product-led growth initiatives. He joined SingleStore after serving top marketing and product management roles at tech industry companies Dell EMC, Microsoft and Palo Alto Networks.

Brian Stevens

Neural Magic, an artificial intelligence company that offers a software architecture for machine learning solutions, appointed Brian Stevens as its chief executive officer. Stevens comes from Google Cloud, where he served as vice president and chief technology officer. Before joining Google, he served as executive vice president and chief technology officer at enterprise open source vendor Red Hat.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Neural Magic team full-time and helping the company to deliver on its mission of AI everywhere,” said Stevens. “While GPUs today are a great fit for training models, they unfortunately put a lot of constraints on inference deployment environments for AI-powered applications. Our goal is to enable models to perform as well on commodity hardware as they do on GPUs - and with that open up a more flexible world of software-delivered AI.”
